Grosjean ready to take on Raikkonen

Romain Grosjean says he is unfazed about the prospect of going up against Kimi Raikkonen at Renault next year - and actually thinks it is him who will have the edge in understanding Pirelli's Formula 1 tyres. The Frenchman was confirmed on Friday as Renault's second driver for 2012, with the team having announced immediately after the Brazilian Grand Prix that Raikkonen would be joining it.

Video: New dashcam footage recovered of Japanese tsunami from wrecked car

Tsunami dash cam video

We've seen some terrifying footage from the tsunami and earthquake that struck Japan in March this year, but few manage to capture the full-on terror of the situation like the clip after the jump. The video was taken by a dash camera mounted on a man's vehicle as the tidal waters surged onto the roadway. Individuals abandon their vehicles, desperately running from the inescapable sea swell, and in moments, debris, cars and people are all helplessly swept up together as the water pushes forward. In a situation like this, it would be impossible to know the correct course of action, but the owner of this particular dash cam wisely chose to stick with the safety of his vehicle for as long as possible.

He was eventually forced out into the rolling seawater as the car began to sink, and used a makeshift raft constructed of his belongings to float to a nearby warehouse. He waited there until the waters subsided and was able later to locate his vehicle and recover this footage. Hit the jump to view the absolutely remarkable video for yourself.

Kurt Busch Fired from Penske NASCAR Team: The Story Behind the Story

The assignment was to infiltrate?with permission?the camp of Penske NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Kurt Busch and his Shell/Pennzoil-sponsored team. I?d camp out on the pit box with crew chief Steve Addington for the entire race, monitor all the radio transmissions between Addington and Busch, and have basically what amounted to unlimited access. We?d do it [...]

Are Cyclists ?Elite Snobs?? It Depends on If They?re in Your Way

“Are Urban Bicyclists Just Elite Snobs?” asked Salon in a recent article. The question could have come from a game of Madlibs. Are [marginalized group of people] just [pejorative adjective] [insulting label]? This "elite snob" actually believes he has a right to the road. Official: 2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe makes its debut

Better late than never, right?

We're now on the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz CLS, the luxury sedan that kicked off the whole "four-door coupe" craze. Since then, Volkswagen countered with the CC, Porsche launched the Panamera, and Audi won us over with its A7. So what about BMW? Now that the big 6 Series coupe has taken hold, the German automaker has added a proper back seat and two additional doors to create this, the 2013 6 Series Gran Coupe.

The first version of the Gran Coupe to arrive Stateside will be the 640i, powered by BMW's N55 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six, good for 315 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque in this application. Shortly thereafter, the 650i Gran Coupe will arrive, available with rear-wheel drive or xDrive all-wheel drive, boasting a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 tuned to 445 hp and 480 lb-ft. Both engines are paired with BMW's ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission.

Compared to its two-door counterpart, the Gran Coupe is a full 4.4 inches longer, and most of that added length benefits the rear passengers. BMW's literature states that the stretched 6 Series has a 4+1 seating configuration, meaning there's actually a quasi-usable seat between the two outboard rear positions. (Good luck.) Judging from the photos, the Gran Coupe's interior is as luxuriously appointed and tech-laden as the rest of the 6 Series range - if not a little bit moreso.

We originally thought that BMW would debut the 2013 6 Series Gran Coupe at next month's Detroit Auto Show, but since the all-new 2012 3 Series is expected to make its public debut at Cobo Hall, we think BMW may hold off on the official Gran Coupe introduction until the Geneva Motor Show in March. We'll likely know official pricing details around that time, too. For now, soak it up in our high-res gallery and follow the jump to read the full details in BMW's press blast.
